Results TimelineSodaTide Results: How Long It Takes to Work
Most SodaTide buyers name four to eight weeks, and the published work agrees.
Bowel habit is the fastest measured change from inulin, at four weeks. Body composition was measured over sixteen weeks at eight grams a day. Nothing here moves in one week.
See how to take it.
Five stages, each set against the trial that measured it, and a plain statement of what a capsule can reasonably be expected to do inside them.

The SodaTide timeline, stage by stage
| When | What buyers describe | What the published work says is happening |
|---|---|---|
| Days 1–4 | The routine, and often some wind | Fermentable fibre reaches the colon intact and the bacteria already there start working on it. Gas is the by-product and it is the commonest first impression. |
| Week 1–2 | The gas settles for most people | Tolerance studies of chicory inulin report flatulence as the leading symptom and find it dose-related rather than permanent. |
| Week 3–4 | Bowel habit is the first thing to change | Stool frequency and softness are the outcomes with the shortest published time-to-effect for inulin, at four weeks in the trials. |
| Week 4–8 | Where most buyers say they judged it | This is the window the seller's own review summary names, and it matches the shortest prebiotic trials that reported a change in appetite ratings. |
| Week 8–16 | The span the fat-mass trials ran over | The prebiotic trials that measured body composition ran 12 to 16 weeks at 8 g a day. Nothing shorter has measured it. |
The left column is the seller's own review summary. The right column is the literature, cited below.
Two things about that table are worth saying out loud. The first is that the two columns broadly agree, which is more than can be said for most supplement timelines. The second is that both columns describe weeks, and the marketing around products of this kind almost always describes days.
Week one on SodaTide: fermentation, and what it feels like
The first thing that happens is gas, and it happens because the product is working rather than because it is not. A fermentable carbohydrate arriving in the colon is a meal for the bacteria there, and the by-products of a bacterial meal include hydrogen, methane and carbon dioxide.
Bonnema and colleagues measured this deliberately: 5 g and 10 g doses of oligofructose and native inulin against placebo, with symptoms scored at 0, 2, 4, 24 and 48 hours. Flatulence was the most frequently reported symptom, bloating second, and the 10 g oligofructose dose was substantially worse than the others. Ripoll and colleagues ran the same question over four weeks and found a daily dose containing 5 g of inulin well tolerated across a month.
A 2022 review reviewed tolerance across nondigestible carbohydrates at doses from 0.75 to 160 grams a day and found the tolerable ceiling varies enormously by substrate. A capsule sits at the very bottom of every one of those ranges, which is the one place the missing amount works in a buyer's favour.
Week four on SodaTide: the first outcome anyone has measured
Four weeks is where the published record starts having something to say. Micka and colleagues gave 44 adults with constipation 12 grams of chicory inulin a day, as three doses of four grams, for four weeks in a crossover with a two-week washout. Stool frequency rose from a median of three a week to four, stools softened, and satisfaction trended upward.
Marteau and colleagues ran the same idea in older adults at 15 grams a day for 28 days: total faecal bacteria and bifidobacteria both rose, volunteers reported more satisfaction with digestion and less difficulty, and flatulence was reported without anyone stopping. Twenty-eight days is the shortest interval in this literature at which a person-level outcome has been demonstrated.
That is the honest floor. If nothing whatever has changed by the end of week four on a routine that is actually being kept, the reasonable inference is that this quantity is not enough for you — which is exactly the question the guarantee exists to let you answer.
The obvious lever and the wrong one. Doubling a fermentable fibre doubles the fermentation, and the first thing that changes is gas. One capsule a day is the label's instruction and the window is long enough not to need shortcuts.
Weeks eight to sixteen on SodaTide: what the longer trials measured
The trials that measured body composition ran much longer than most people are prepared to wait. Nicolucci and colleagues randomised children aged 7 to 12 with overweight or obesity to 8 grams a day of oligofructose-enriched inulin or an isocaloric maltodextrin placebo for sixteen weeks, and reported lower percent body fat, lower percent trunk fat, a lower BMI z-score and lower serum interleukin 6.
Hume and colleagues reported the appetite arm of the same study: higher feelings of fullness and lower prospective consumption at a breakfast buffet at sixteen weeks, and lower energy intake in the 11- and 12-year-olds but not the younger children.
Chambers and colleagues took twenty-four weeks to show that targeted colonic propionate reduced weight gain and intra-abdominal fat in overweight adults. Six months, a purpose-built molecule, and 10 grams a day.
What the SodaTide guarantee window means for the timeline
Sixty days from the date of purchase, and the seller asks for at least thirty days of use before a refund request. Those two numbers frame the decision precisely.
Thirty days of use takes you to the end of the interval where bowel habit has been shown to change. Sixty days from purchase takes you to the middle of the window buyers themselves name. So the guarantee is, unusually, well matched to the product: it is long enough to cover the period in which anything measurable has ever been measured, and it closes before the sixteen-week trials would have reported anything at all.
The practical consequence is that the clock starts when you pay, not when you open the bottle. A parcel that sits unopened for three weeks has spent a third of the window. The refund steps are on the refund policy page and are worth reading before you need them rather than after.
